I have recently had the pleasure to partake in the Christchurch Call training.
These programmes are available online, and they can be completed at a time and pace that suits you.
You sign up for the course for free, and once you are logged in it will save your progress, meaning if you are busy or are interrupted. you can just pick up where you left off anytime you want.
The training itself is some of the best online training that I have ever completed.
It was interesting, interactive, and had me enthralled from start to finish.
The training is structured into easily navigable Modules.
Each Module contains multiple sections, with every section addressing a different, but related, topic.
The modules are not too long, but are packed with information.
As someone who works in this field. This training still offered a unique insight into the dangers that are frequently and sadly faced by many within the online spaces.
This training showed videos from personal experiences that challenged me to see the situation from a different perspective.
It showed data and statistics that often surprised and shocked me.
There were flash card options that offered further information and allowed a more interactive experience.
Each module concludes with a short knowledge check. This isn't a test or assessment; instead, its purpose is to confirm your understanding of the module's information.
Then finally at the end of each Module there is a re-cap, which acts as an amazing re-fresh for the user.
There were two courses available.
Level-Up Safely - A Christchurch Call Initiative.
This course is suitable for anyone.
Whether you are a professional working with children or vulnerable adults. A parent, a family member or Community worker.
This course offers knowledge and understanding for everyone on the dangers that are present and ever growing within the digital and gaming world.
It offers an understanding on topics such as, how algorithms work, the risk factors in gaming, how you can find games that focus on positive play and how you can encourage gaming safely.
That is only a few examples of the many topics that are covered in this fabulous training.
At the end of the training you will find helplines and resources that you can easily access and that are based within the country that you reside.
Digital Bystanders - Community Moderator Training
This course is ideal for anyone involved in online and digital moderation or management.
It is relevant across various platforms, including gaming communities, Social media, business pages, Community spaces and Educational and training environments to name just a few.
It teaches core basics such as understanding online harm, how to recognise and deal with harmful online behaviour, how you can set up for success plus much, much more.
It offers lots of valuable and practical advice to maintain a healthy and safe environment as well as offering you a deeper understanding of the challenges and risks that you could face.
I would highly recommend both of these courses to anyone.
Both courses in total took me approximately 9 hours to fully complete, the Digital Bystanders, community moderator course being the shorter of the two.
I was doing other tasks during this time so that length would likely differ for others.
I really hope that Christchurch Call releases other courses, because I will be first in line.
These are the best courses that I have ever attended, and I will take what I have learned from them into both my professional and personal life.
