Do you need support?

Dear Families

If you have found yourself here then the chances are you have worried that a friend or loved one has been radicalised.

Many of you have probably witnessed loved ones expressing concerning and sometimes  hateful views, opinions and comments that are far from what is familiar from them, views and opinions that sometimes express anger or disdain towards certain cultures, ethnicities, faiths or communities.

They can also become dejected with life, often expressing fear and uncertainty whilst blaming others.

Statements and information expressed by them can often sound rehearsed or can be spoken in a pattern unlike their own.

How many of you have noticed changes in their attitude and behaviour? Were they once fun and loving characters to be around and now they are deep thinking, irritable and moody?

Do they talk about them and us, or see themselves as fighting for a greater cause?.

Do they see themselves as a protector or even superior?

Do you dread interactions with that person because you know how quickly every conversation can go south, are they easily irritated or want to debate and challenge everything that you say?.Do they mock or belittle you when you challenge their views or opinions?

Do you live in constant fear for their safety and their future? Are you waiting for the knock of law enforcement at the door? And how many fear for your own safety or the safety of others within the home. If not from retaliation but from angry outbursts.

Do you feel like you are losing or that you have lost your loved one? And are other relationships suffering because of their involvement, specifically your relationships.

Are you finding it difficult to sleep, concentrate or focus on other things?

Are you struggling with feelings and emotions such as responsibility, frustration, anger, blame, fear and pain?

Do you feel like you are being judged by others because of involvement? Have you had unhelpful advice and comments from others? Do you feel let down and alone?

Do you want  help but don't know who you can talk to or who you can trust? Are you afraid to seek support for fear of judgement and consequence?

Could you benefit from support and advice on surviving the reality of living with an extremist/supporter.

Do you just want your life and your loved one back again?

If you have answere

d yes to any of  the questions above then help and support is available.

ACT EARLY - Is a non-criminal space where you can talk about your concerns with specially trained staff in radicalisation and extremism.

ACT EARLY has a multi-body approach, meaning they can link you and your loved one to multiple services for support.

Data and experience tells us that the earlier that someone is given support for radicalisation and extremism then the greater the probability of a successful outcome.

Your silence is not protecting your loved one, it is enabling them. If you do nothing you allow the extremists to tighten their grip on your loved one and continue to decimate and destroy both of your lives.

At Exit Hate Trust we offer emotional support and advice to families on how to survive the impact of extremism from a lived experience perspective.

Understanding multi agency support is crucial, we advocate people reach out to ACT EARLY and get the support that they offer.

Offering a listening ear, Exit Hate gets it as we have been there, so if you need a chat from people who understand and won’t judge. Just get in touch.
