Filling The Void

When people walk away from extremism, for some there is a void.

Whereas once they had a vision, a purpose and a belief system, when some people walk away, they feel they have nothing and this can even result in them asking their worth.

Far from being a negative, having walked away from involvement, this is a new start, a time to embrace the future and look ahead.

This could be rekindling old interests, before involvement or embracing new ones.

Looking at things to do, there’s lots of options for ways to keep busy and have a fulfilling life, away from the far right.

As a former, when I left the far right, I got back into football again. A love I have always had but had neglected when I was involved in the far-right, because it took up so much time.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am no Messi, but I love playing in a 5 a side team., connecting with people, being active and taking my mind off things in the past.

Another interest I found I really enjoyed was getting into combat sport. The gym was a proper community and through learning different combat sports it gave me discipline and helped me control the anger and aggression I had left over from the far right.

Still patriotic, many people who walk away from the far-right, still love their country, but in an inclusive way, based on Place NOT Race.

If you are looking for a way to stay patriotic but without the racism there has never been a better time to get involved with England 1100 birthday coming up on July 12th, 2027, and this is something Exit and others will be promoting, so please support us with this if you can

Alternatively, you could start to going on more walks and taking in some of the amazing English countryside! You can do this on your own or as part of a group, please search Ramblers, a local walking group by you or try the British Walking Federation.

You could also look to improve your cooking skills and download some recipes, both traditional English food, but what not see what other communities eat. You will be amazed.

If you have some time, you could volunteer for some fantastic patriotic charities like the Royal British Legon, the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation or the War Memorial Trust.

Sometimes the simplest things in life can give you the most pleasure, so don’t think you can’t do anything.

Learning new skills and contributing towards your local community are some of the most rewarding ways of doing something positive.

Almost every town has a non-league football team who are constantly looking for volunteers and supporters and here you can help keep the beautiful game looking beautiful by helping keep the stadium clean, giving it a lick of paint and helping with the day-to-day maintenance of the club or on match days.

Through doing things like we have suggested here, not only will you be contributing to making things better where you live, you will also learn new skills and connect with new people away from politics.

If you need any help thinking of ideas on what to do to fill your time, or you aren’t sure on how to approach new activities please get in touch with us.

We can give you guidance on how to approach people asking to get involved in new things and an idea or 2.

You deserve better than wasting years in the far-right.

Having doubts? walk away and start again, you are not alone.
