Getting help from Prevent is not as hard as you may think.
To start……………..
Identify The Concern (Notice)
Recognise indicators that someone is being radicalised, such as behavioural changes, expressing extremist views, accessing extremist material, or becoming isolated.
Evaluate and Check (Check)
Conduct a sensitive initial assessment and discuss any concerns with your organisation's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or a senior staff member to gather more context.
Use Official Resources - Try Act Early:
Consult the ACT Early website for guidance on how to talk about your concerns and identify if a referral is necessary.
Complete the Referral Form:
Fill out the National Prevent Referral Form. This ensures all relevant details regarding the individual's behaviour, vulnerability, and personal details are captured.
Submit the Referral (Share):
Submit the form securely to your local police Prevent team, the local authority's Prevent lead, or email it directly to prevent@merseyside.police.uk (if in that region) or similar local police channels.
Police Gateway Assessment:
The Prevent team will screen the referral to check for a genuine risk of radicalisation and immediate security threats.
Multi-Agency Panel (Channel):
If the referral meets the threshold, it will be discussed at a multi-agency Channel panel—which is composed of police, health, social services, and education—to assess the risks and determine appropriate support.
Implement Support & Review:
If successful, a tailored support plan will be created (e.g., mentoring, theology advice, counselling) and offered to the individual, who then should consent to participate.
